# House and kitchen rewiring — JD Electricals

Replacing the wiring on a full or partial rewire, then testing and certifying it. Kitchen rewires are done alongside a refit, timed to the fitter's schedule.

## What a rewire costs

A rewire is priced on the property, not a rate card: bedrooms, age, how many circuits, and whether making good is included. It usually is not, so we say so upfront.
- House rewire (full domestic rewiring): price on request
- Kitchen rewire: price on request
- Quotes are free and there is no call-out charge for arranging one.
- The price is agreed before anything is booked.
- Anything found once the job is open is quoted separately and agreed with you first.

## Full, partial or kitchen

Most people do not need everything replaced.
- **Full rewire:** Every circuit replaced. Usually where the wiring is original and the board has no protection worth keeping.
- **Partial rewire:** Only what has aged. If the main circuits test sound, this is far cheaper and much less disruptive.
- **Kitchen rewire:** New circuits for appliances, sockets, under-cabinet lighting and the cooker supply, timed around the fitter.

## What is covered

A rewire is disruptive by nature, so it is worth being clear on where it stops.

### Included
- New cable, accessories and circuit protection for the agreed scope
- A consumer unit that can carry the new circuits
- Full testing and certification on completion
- Routes planned around existing voids and floors to limit damage

### Not included
- Plastering, decorating and making good, unless agreed in writing
- Kitchen or bathroom fitting, which is coordinated rather than carried out
- Listed building consent, which is the owner's to obtain where it applies

## What happens on the day

A full rewire runs over several days; a kitchen rewire is usually much shorter.
1. **Before:** We agree the scope room by room and confirm whether making good is included, so there is no argument later.
2. **During:** Work is staged so the house stays liveable where possible, with power restored at the end of each day.
3. **After:** Everything is tested, certified and labelled, and the certificate comes to you rather than needing chasing.

## What you end up with

Wiring that will outlast the next owner, and paperwork that proves it.
- **Certified throughout:** Full testing and certification for the work carried out, which matters at sale.
- **Capacity for later:** Circuits sized for how houses are actually used now, including chargers and garden power.

### Do we have to move out?

Usually not. Work is normally staged room by room so the house stays liveable, though a full rewire is genuinely disruptive while it runs.

### Is making good included?

Normally not, and we say so before you commit. Chases have to be filled and decorations touched up, and most people prefer to arrange that themselves.

### Can you rewire a kitchen during a refit?

Yes, and it is worth booking early. The electrics need to land after the old units come out and before the new ones go in.
