Kitchen splashback with brushed steel sockets and switches under lit wall units by JD Electricals

Kitchen rewire in Basingstoke

JD Electricals rewires kitchens for homeowners and landlords in Basingstoke and nearby Hampshire towns. We run new circuits in that room, test them and leave the electrical paperwork for the work.

Most of my work is domestic: consumer units, full and partial rewires, lighting and EICRs on houses around Basingstoke. I test and certify everything I fit, and anything else I find while I am there gets priced separately rather than added quietly to the bill. The electrician who quotes your job is the one who does it.

Who needs a kitchen rewire

  • You need a kitchen rewire when the circuits in that room cannot carry the new layout, the extra appliances or the sockets you want.
  • A new run of units, an induction hob or extra worktop sockets needs new cable in that room before the fitters close the walls.
  • Crackled sockets, a packed worktop spur or lights that dip when the kettle boils mean the kitchen cable cannot carry the load.
  • When an EICR, an electrical installation condition report, fails kitchen circuits in a let, those circuits need replacing.

What is covered

A kitchen rewire with JD Electricals is new circuits in that room, tested and recorded, not a full house rewire.

Included

  • New circuits in the kitchen named on the written quote, including cable and the fittings listed
  • Removal of the old kitchen cable once the new circuits are live
  • Sockets, switches and lights in that kitchen as listed on the written quote
  • Testing of every new kitchen circuit before power stays on
  • Electrical paperwork for the completed kitchen rewire

Not included

  • Rooms outside the kitchen, which belong on a house rewire from £4,800
  • Kitchen units, worktops, tiling and decorating after the cables are in
  • A fuse board replacement, which starts from £650 as its own job

What happens on the day

JD Electricals isolates the old kitchen circuits, runs the new cable, then tests it and leaves the paperwork.

  1. 01

    Arrival at the kitchen

We walk the kitchen on the written quote, isolate the old kitchen circuits and protect floors and units in the working area.

  2. 02

    Running the new kitchen circuits

We pull the old kitchen cable, run the new circuits and fit the sockets, switches and lights named on the quote.

  3. 03

Power back on and the record

We test every new kitchen circuit, restore power in that room and leave the record for the work with you.

Kitchen rewire prices

A kitchen rewire with JD Electricals starts from £1,600. That starting price buys new circuits in the kitchen named on the written quote.

  • The starting price is for kitchen circuits only, not a full house rewire.
  • A cooker connection, extra sockets, lighting or an extractor fan is priced on its own when it sits outside the written quote.
  • Anything found beyond the written quote is priced separately before that work starts.

What you get after a kitchen rewire

You are left with new circuits in the kitchen, a room the other trades can finish, and the paperwork for that work.

New circuits in the kitchen
Lights, sockets and fixed appliances in that room run on the new cable, not on the old kitchen wiring.
A kitchen ready for the fitter
Cable is in, accessories are on, and the room can take units, worktops and appliances without chasing live walls later.
Paperwork for the kitchen circuits
You keep the record for the new kitchen installation so a landlord, buyer or insurer can see what was fitted.

Why customers choose JD Electricals

JD Electricals puts the kitchen rewire figure in writing before old cable comes out. New kitchen circuits are tested and the paperwork for that work stays with you.

Kitchen rewire questions

Homeowners and landlords in Basingstoke ask about the starting price, whether the rest of the house needs cable, and what they keep after the visit.

How much does a kitchen rewire cost?+

A kitchen rewire with JD Electricals starts from £1,600. That starting price is for new circuits in the kitchen named on the written quote. Extra sockets, lighting, a cooker connection or an extractor fan is priced on its own when it sits outside that quote.

James Dunn

Is a kitchen rewire enough or do I need the whole house?+

A kitchen rewire is enough when the problem is that room's layout, load or tired fittings. If an EICR or a fault visit shows old cable in the other rooms, JD Electricals quotes a full domestic rewire from £4,800 instead.

James Dunn

Will the electricity go off during a kitchen rewire?+

Power in the kitchen is off while the old circuits come out and the new ones go in. Lights and sockets on other circuits stay on. Power in the kitchen returns once the new circuits have been tested.

Do I get a certificate for a kitchen rewire?+

You get the electrical paperwork for the new kitchen circuits when the work is complete. A minor works certificate starts from £95 when that is the document the job needs. The record stays with you for the property.

What happens after I book a kitchen rewire?+

After you book, JD Electricals prices the kitchen rewire in writing from the layout of that room. On the day we isolate the old circuits, run the new cable, test it and leave the paperwork. The figure you already have stays the written price unless extra work is found and priced separately.
