JD Electricals replaces light switches and dimmers for homeowners and landlords around Basingstoke and the nearby Hampshire towns. The worn plate comes off, a new switch or dimmer goes onto the existing wall box, and the lights are checked before we leave.
“Most of my work is domestic: consumer units, full and partial rewires, lighting and EICRs on houses around Basingstoke. I test and certify everything I fit, and anything else I find while I am there gets priced separately rather than added quietly to the bill. The electrician who quotes your job is the one who does it.”
The visit changes the plate on the wall. It does not add a new lighting run from the fuse board.
On the day we isolate that lighting circuit, take the worn plate off, fit the new switch or dimmer, and check the lamps with you before we go.
We find the breaker for those lights, turn it off, and confirm the old switch is dead before the plate comes away.
Wires from the wall go onto the new switch or dimmer, then the plate is screwed to the box already in the wall.
You operate the new plate, then we complete a minor works certificate from £95 when that document was part of the booking.
Replacing a light switch or dimmer starts from £60. That starting price is for one worn plate coming off and a new switch or dimmer going onto the same wall box.
You leave the visit with a working wall control and lamps that follow the new switch or dimmer.
JD Electricals writes the light switch or dimmer figure before the plate comes off. Extra work found on the visit is priced on its own, and the new control is tested on that lighting circuit before we leave.

These photographs show work completed across the wider service area covered by JD Electricals; they are not all presented as light switch or dimmer replacement work.
Callers ask about the starting price, whether the lamps go off, and what paperwork they keep after a switch change.
Replacing a light switch or dimmer with JD Electricals starts from £60. That figure is for one control on a wall box that already suits the new plate. After you book, the worn plate comes off during the visit.

Yes, many LED lamps need a dimmer made for LED loads rather than an older rotary made for halogen. JD Electricals prices that dimmer above the £60 starting price when the existing control will not drive the lamps smoothly. You see the figure in writing before the plate comes off.

No, JD Electricals turns off the breaker for those lights only, so the rest of the house stays live. The lamps on that switch go dark for the swap, then come back once the new plate is tested. Other circuits are left on.
Yes, a two way switch is one of a pair that controls the same lights from two places, such as the top and bottom of the stairs. JD Electricals prices a two way set above the £60 starting price for a single plate. The pair is written before either landing plate comes off.
After you book, JD Electricals plans the light switch or dimmer visit around the property. On the day the worn plate comes off, the new control goes on, and the lamps are tested. The price stays the written figure you already have.
JD Electricals comes to the house to replace a light switch or dimmer after the written price is in place.
