# Lighting installation and upgrades — JD Electricals

## What lighting work costs

Single fittings are priced per fitting, so tell us how many. A whole room or a full-house scheme is quoted as one job rather than multiplied up, which usually works out lower.

- Light switch or dimmer replacement: price on request
- Quotes are free and there is no call-out charge for arranging one.
- The price is agreed before anything is booked.
- Anything found once the job is open is quoted separately and agreed with you first.

## The work that comes up most

Lighting ranges from a ten-minute swap to a full circuit.
- **Downlights:** Fitting or replacing recessed lights, priced per fitting, with the ceiling void checked before anything is cut.
- **Replacement fittings:** Swapping a fitting on an existing point, including heavier pendants that need proper fixing.
- **Dimmers and controls:** The usual cause of flicker is LED compatibility, so the dimmer is matched to the lamps rather than fitted blind.
- **Outdoor and garden:** New circuits run outside, with the right protection and weather rating for where they sit.

## What happens on the day

Most lighting work is a single visit.
1. **Before:** Say how many fittings, whether you are supplying them, and if anything is going where there is no light now.
2. **During:** Only the lighting circuit is off, so the rest of the house carries on.
3. **After:** Everything is tested and, where the work is notifiable, certified.

## What you end up with

Lighting that works properly, and does not flicker.
- **No flicker:** Dimmers and lamps matched, which is the most common cause of a callback when they are not.
- **Safe outdoors:** Outdoor circuits with the right protection and rating for the position.

### Can you fit lights I have bought?

Yes, and most people do. Just have them on site for the visit, and tell us the type so we can bring the right fixings.

### Why do my LEDs flicker on a dimmer?

Almost always a compatibility issue between the dimmer and the lamps. Matching the two fixes it far more reliably than changing bulbs.

### Do you do garden lighting?

Yes. It needs a properly protected outdoor circuit rather than an extension lead, and the fittings have to be rated for where they sit.
