How much does an EICR cost in Gosport
The Gosport inspection covers testing the accessible circuits at the domestic address and writing the report with its observations and overall result.
From £200
Included
- A visual check of the fuse board, wiring and accessories
- Dead and live tests on the circuits at the consumer unit
- A written EICR with codes for anything that fails
- Testing of accessible sockets, lights and fixed equipment
- A talk through the findings before we leave
Ways to pay

- Pay by bank
- Bank transfer
- That is a starting price, not a fixed total. A large house, a shop with a flat above, or extra buildings on the same supply take longer, and the actual figure goes on the written quote before we attend.
- Fault finding, consumer unit replacement and any minor works certificate needed for repairs are quoted separately from the inspection.

What happens on the day
An inspection follows the same order every time, from the front door to the report.
- Walking the property firstWe introduce ourselves, then walk the rooms with you or the tenant so we know where the board, the meter, the earth connection and any outbuilding supply are. Anything we cannot get to, a locked cupboard or a floor that cannot come up, is worth finding now rather than halfway through. Then we say how long the power will be off and for which parts of the building.
- Testing every circuit we can reachContinuity, insulation resistance, polarity, earth fault loop impedance and the trip times of any residual current device, on the circuits feeding sockets, lights, the cooker, the shower and any garage or store on the same supply. Sockets, switches and the consumer unit are opened where they can be and closed exactly as we found them. Faults are coded as we find them, on the spot.
- The report and what it meansAt the end we go through the result with you: satisfactory or unsatisfactory, and what each code means. C1 is danger present, C2 is potentially dangerous, C3 is improvement recommended, and further investigation means something needs opening up. You get the report the same visit and a written price for any remedial work, which you are free to have done by anyone.

“Most of my work is domestic: consumer units, full and partial rewires, lighting and EICRs on houses around Basingstoke. I test and certify everything I fit, and anything else I find while I am there gets priced separately rather than added quietly to the bill. The electrician who quotes your job is the one who does it.”

How long does the test take?
A flat or a small house in the town centre is a morning or an afternoon. A larger house, or a shop with a dwelling above sharing one supply, takes longer because there are more circuits to isolate, test and record. We give you the expected window when the date is confirmed so you can warn a tenant or plan around it.
Does someone have to be there?
Someone with access does, to let us in and point us at the board, the meter and any outbuilding. A tenant, an agent or the owner is all fine. Circuits go off in turn while we work, so empty rooms make it quicker but are not necessary. Locked cupboards and blocked hatches are what actually slow a test down.
What happens if the result is unsatisfactory?
The report still stands as a record and it tells you exactly what caused the result. We price the work that would make it satisfactory and you decide whether we do it or somebody else does. Nothing is done on the day beyond making a genuine danger safe, and that is explained to you first.
How often does it need doing?
For a rented home, at the interval set for tenancies, and again when tenants change if the existing report has expired. For an owner occupied house, roughly every ten years, or sooner after a flood, a fire, an extension or if you have just bought the place. If you cannot find a previous report, that is a reason to test now.
Will you switch off the whole building?
Only where the board design forces it, and then for as short a time as possible. Otherwise circuits come off one at a time so a shop can trade and a fridge upstairs keeps running. We tell you before we isolate anything, which matters in a building where somebody else's stock or work is on that supply.
