An Electrical Installation Condition Report is a formal document produced after an in-depth inspection of a property's fixed wiring. It details whether the consumer unit, cables, switches, and sockets are safe for continued use.
Are landlords legally required to have an EICR?
Yes. Private landlords in England must have the electrical installations in their rental properties inspected and tested at least every five years, supplying a copy of the report to incoming and current tenants.
How long does an inspection take?
A standard domestic inspection generally takes between two and four hours, depending on the number of circuits, the physical layout of the home, and ease of access to the consumer unit and accessories.
Will the power be turned off during the visit?
Yes. Testing requires isolating circuits at the consumer unit to take dead tests and measure insulation resistance. We turn power off in planned stages to keep interruptions as minimal as possible.
What happens if an installation receives an unsatisfactory result?
If defects classified as C1 or C2 are detected, the report will be marked unsatisfactory. We provide a full explanation of the issues along with a separate written quotation to complete the necessary remedial work.
