Electrician services from JD Electricals

Electrician in Fleet

JD Electricals provides EICRs, EV charger installation and full or partial house rewiring for homeowners, landlords and buyers in Fleet.

Most of my work is domestic: consumer units, full and partial rewires, lighting and EICRs on houses around Basingstoke. I test and certify everything I fit, and anything else I find while I am there gets priced separately rather than added quietly to the bill. The electrician who quotes your job is the one who does it.

Electrician in Fleet

  • Fleet is the far edge of our patch, so work here is planned in with a date rather than dropped in on.
  • Older houses around Fleet Road carry circuits added piecemeal over a hundred years.
  • Small houses that never allowed for home working now want more points per room.
  • Modern boards mean adding circuits rather than replacing anything.

Fleet housing and what each part needs

  • The town splits into old streets near the station and newer housing at Elvetham Heath, and we treat them differently.
  • Boards in these houses are usually full, with later kitchens hung off early circuits.
  • Sound modern installations that we add to rather than tear out.
  • Later houses on wider plots where owners open up rooms and rewire in one go.

Other electrical work in Fleet

Planned trips over here also take in rewiring, board changes, shower circuits, alarm heads and lighting.

What happens on the day

A Fleet booking is planned, so the day is worked out before we set off.

  1. 01

Arriving with the job already planned

Because we travel over for a booked date, we bring what the job needs rather than working out the parts on your doorstep. We arrive at the agreed time, find the board and the meter, and confirm the work and the price we settled on. Then we tell you which circuits are going off and roughly when, so you can plan the day around it instead of guessing.

  2. 02

Doing the work in one run

We would rather finish a Fleet job in a single visit than come back, so we work straight through with the parts on the van. In the older streets that means mapping which circuit feeds the front rooms and the kitchen before anything is disturbed. On Elvetham Heath it means testing the existing board, then adding the new way and running the cable neatly to where it is wanted.

  3. 03

Test, certificate, and a clean finish

Everything installed is tested and the results go on a certificate with your Fleet address on it. We put boards, carpets and furniture back, take the packaging away, and label the new way at the consumer unit. Before we drive back we go through the work with you and confirm there is nothing outstanding, because a second trip over here helps neither of us.

Why Fleet customers book us

The date is fixed in the quote, the price is written down before we travel, and JD Electricals does the work and signs it off.

Questions from Fleet customers

What people over here ask before they book a date.

Do you charge extra to come out to Fleet?+

Travel is built into the quote rather than added as a surprise line at the end. What we ask for instead is a booked date, because Fleet is the outer edge of our area and we cannot treat it as a call in on the way past. You get the figure and the date together before anything is agreed.

Our Victorian house has a full fuse board, what are the options?+

Either the board is replaced with one that has enough ways and proper protection, from £650, or circuits are consolidated where that is safe. Which one is right depends on the state of the existing cable, so we test before advising. Adding a new circuit to a board with nothing spare is not one of the options.

Is a new build house safe to add a charge point to?+

Almost always, and the board on Elvetham Heath usually has a spare way ready for it. We still check the incoming supply, the earthing arrangement and the load before we fit anything, because a charger is a heavy continuous draw. A home charge point starts from £750.

How much of the house has to come apart for a rewire?+

Floors come up along the cable routes, and walls get chased where sockets and switches move. It is disruptive but it is not demolition. A full rewire starts from £4,800 and we give you a written order of rooms so you know where you will be living each night. Most people stay in the house throughout.

Can you fit more sockets in a small terrace?+

Yes, and it is one of the most common jobs on Kings Road and Albert Street. Extra points go in where you actually use them, off the existing ring where it is sound, from £85. Where the ring is tired we will say so rather than adding another spur to a circuit that is already struggling.

Do you test the equipment for people working from home?+

Yes, if you want it. Portable appliance testing covers anything with a plug, from computers and monitors to power tools in the garage, and starts from £95. You get a list of what passed and what failed. Most home offices are fine, but tired extension leads and old chargers turn up regularly.

What if something goes wrong after you have gone home?+

Call us and tell us what is happening. If it is connected to the work we did, we come back and put it right. If it is a separate fault elsewhere in the house, we will tell you that honestly and price the investigation from £75 per hour rather than quietly folding it into a repair you did not need.
