A standard consumer unit replacement generally takes between four and six hours. Power must be switched off while the old fuse box is removed, the new enclosure mounted, and RCBO breakers installed. Each circuit is then systematically tested before the supply is turned back on.
When do landlords in Fleet need an EICR?
Private landlords must have an electrical installation condition report carried out at least once every five years, or at the start of a new tenancy. The inspection verifies that wiring, earthing and protective devices meet current safety requirements for domestic tenants.
Can extra sockets be added to existing circuits?
Yes, additional sockets can be spurred from existing ring mains or added directly into the circuit, provided the current load and cable condition permit it. Every new socket is installed into a secure back box and tested for polarity and earth fault loop impedance.
Will rewiring damage walls and ceilings?
Rewiring requires routing new cables through walls, floors and ceilings. Where cables are chased into plaster, work is kept as neat as possible, and surface trunking or existing ceiling voids are used wherever practical to minimise disturbance to interior finishes.
What happens if a circuit fails electrical testing during a visit?
If testing reveals an underlying defect such as degraded insulation resistance or an open circuit, the fault is isolated and explained to you. We provide a separate written price for the necessary remedial repair rather than adding unplanned charges to your bill.
